Loblaw is taking its partnership with Specsavers Canada into the loyalty space, adding eyecare to PC Optimum’s growing suite of rewards offerings.
After opening 111 Specsavers locations inside Loblaw grocery banners across Canada last year, the new loyalty team-up will offer 10 PC Optimum points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases, including eyewear, contacts, sunglasses and accessories.
“As one of Canada’s strongest loyalty reward programs, PC Optimum was a compelling strategic choice,” Jane Hoban, managing director at Specsavers Canada, said in a release. “Over the past five years we have built strong momentum and as we continue to grow, our focus remains on making quality eyewear and eyecare more accessible and more rewarding for every community we serve across this country.”

Loblaw says it is looking to add increased value and drive more routine eyecare spending through the partnership. Monday’s announcement comes as Canada’s large loyalty programs angle to reduce friction by offering reward opportunities across everyday spending touchpoints.
The Specsavers deal adds eyecare to a PC Optimum program that already offers rewards at grocery (Loblaw banners), financial (EQ Bank), fuel (Esso and Mobil) and apparel (Joe Fresh) outlets. Competitor Scene+’s recent addition of Shell Canada gives it a fuel partner alongside its entertainment, grocery, banking, travel, dining and home-improvement offerings. “People expect their loyalty programs to show up across more of the moments that matter to them,” Loblaw chief digital officer Lauren Steinberg said.
