Numerator reveals shoppers’ pre-Easter purchasing plans

Numerator’s Canadian Holiday Preview survey shows that the vast majority of Easter celebrants make their seasonal purchases at least couple of weeks ahead of the holiday.

The insight firm’s recent poll of approximately 5,200 consumers reveals that 51% of purchasers buy Easter-related items one to two weeks in advance, followed by 30%, who buy one month or more in advance. The data reveals that 14% leave their buying to the final two days before the holiday, while Only 6% purchase more than three months ahead of time.

According Numerator, 67% of those surveyed said intend to celebrate Easter, with 88% of Easter shoppers saying that price is having an impact on their planned spend. The most popular shopping destination among Easter celebrators  who said they intend to make a purchase is Walmart at 55%.

Candy makes up 53% of purchases among the 69% who said they plan to purchase food for Easter. Other popular purchases include alcohol (24%) and decorations (20%). Further, 48% said they celebrate the holiday with a partner or family, 39% said they bake or cook special treats and meals and 27% said they colour Easter eggs or plan an egg hunt.

The poll suggests Easter enthusiasm is not as pronounced as other holidays: only 27% of respondents said they “go all out” or are very enthusiastic about Easter, compared to those asked the same question for Diwali (54%), Ramadan/Eid-al-Fitr (52%) and Christmas (43%).
